Behind The Berluti Patina<\/h1>\n

The first bespoke shoe brand to break the \u2018brown for day, black for night\u2019 rule of menswear<\/strong> and introduce color, Berluti <\/strong>continues to be the leader in innovation. The trademarked Berluti Patina<\/strong>, introduced in the 1980s by Olga Berluti<\/strong>, was the result of many techniques for coloring and bleaching leather<\/strong>, through the application of essential oils, pigments and dyes.<\/p>\n

Olga thought nothing was more beautiful than a shoe<\/strong> burnished by time, whose color was starting to wear away. \u201cOnly those possess a soul,\u201d she said. By developing a worn-away, new palette of colors<\/strong>, each shoe became as unique as the man<\/strong> who wore them.<\/p>\n

Venezia Leather<\/h1>\n

In order to produce patinas<\/strong> that gleamed like Japanese lacquer<\/strong>, Olga Berluti<\/strong> also invented Venezia Leather<\/strong>. A leather so supple and fine, made from the most exceptional full-grain<\/strong>, uncoated skins<\/strong>, that it becomes the perfect canvas for unbridled creativity. Using an exclusive tanning technique<\/strong> developed to give each shoe a particular flexibility and adhesion, each pair isn\u2019t just a work of art, but represents pure function as well.<\/p>\n

Care Guidelines<\/h1>\n

Properly caring for the patina<\/strong> is of the utmost importance that is why we recommend that clients who own shoes in our signature Venezia Leather<\/strong> remember one of the House\u2019s oldest care rituals: the first patina<\/strong>. Once the shoes have been worn about fifteen times, and before the application of shoe care cream of any kind, the first patina makes it possible to stabilize the shoe\u2019s color<\/strong> and refine it with respect to the creases created by the wearer\u2019s first impressions on the leather<\/strong>. It is in this way that your patina and your shoes <\/strong>will truly be unique. It is our pleasure to offer this care ritual<\/strong> in all the Berluti Boutiques<\/strong>\u00a0upon presentation of the \u201cFirst Patina\u201d<\/strong> card offered when you purchase your shoes.<\/p>\n

Afterward, we recommend that you return your shoes<\/strong> to our workshops<\/strong> twice yearly for general upkeep.<\/p>\n

During the first weekend, starting March 13th<\/sup>, a Berluti colorist<\/strong> will be present to perform Patina service and to personalize your selection.
